Pelosi Isn’t Stupid, But She Thinks You Are
Nancy Pelosi stated recently that giving people unemployment checks “…creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name.” What?? She claims that unemployment checks CREATE jobs! No really, she said that. Read it here.
Either Pelosi is the dumbest person on the planet or she is an arrogant, lying socialist. I’m choose the latter. The sheer stupidity of the statement can only mean she thinks you are dumb enough to believe it. Why not just call the sun the moon and claim the sky is pink.
Unemployment taxes are paid by your employer and the benefits are paid to you upon losing your job. It was a program designed to provide a temporary safety net for people that were laid off or lost their job through no fault of their own, but the benefits have been extended to many people for almost two years. Having the government send you a check that is less than the paycheck you received while employed does not stimulate the economy. It places a drag upon it. Not only do you have less discretionary income to spend, but the money was not generated in the free market, but through taxes.
Furthermore, people who have been getting unemployment benefits for up to two years and are expecting more extensions to those benefits have little incentive to look for work. Again, the checks don’t create jobs and they don’t encourage anyone to take the jobs that are out there. Lose-lose.
What this is really about is the liberals and statists like Nancy Pelosi, what people to continue to depend upon the federal government for their livelihood. Whether its welfare, an ever expanding government job pool or unemployment, people who are beholden to the government for their survival tend to vote for the people that gave it to them and are more likely to stick it to the rest of us to get it. Like just about everything else this government is doing, its about power and control. Power over your life, your money and your dwindling liberty.
